Well that article makes me very grateful to be living in this day and age. This next one is even more shocking. Read about crime and punishment during Shakespeare's time by clicking HERE.
How was crime and punishment different than and it is today? How is our American Justice System better than the Elizabethan Justice System. How is ours worse? How could ours be improved?

Crime and punishment from Shakespeare's time is different from today. I find that the punishments were shocking and that some of the crimes are not a big deal. The punishments in Shakespeare's time were more torturous. Most of the punishments resulted in injuries and deaths. Today, punishment is probably usually jail time, community services, etc. Today, we have lawyers and people that help us show that we aren't guilty. They probably didn't have what we have today. The American Justice System is better because in America, we are not proven guilty if there is no evidence. Our system is sometimes worse because, parts of the government don't really care whether or not the person if guilty. They don't want any evidence. They refuse to do their jobs correctly.

Our Justice system is better than the elizabethan Justice system because of the simple fact of the consequences than you were eaither going to get tortured or killed nd today the most that can happen is you get sentenced to life in prison. The only thing that i would say is worse is that since their consequences were so servere they probably had less crimes than we do today. Our systems can be improved ...welll i dont no!

Our System is way better than theirs b/c they didnt seek the truth like we do. they accuse others w/o finding out the truth and so people r put to death for everything they did wrong. our Justice System is way better b/c for everything people arent put to death they are given a prison sentence, even though most people sumtimes would rather die then b given a prison sentence, its better than what the elizabethan's had. ill take a prison sentence way more instead of bein put to death and at least have a chance to b proven innoccent instead of just being accused for sumthing i might have not done.

this is way different than the crime and punishments that are done today b/c well within the justice system they never seeked for the truth they did whatever they thought had to be done for what the person did including little things like for example stealing a birds egg WoW! In my opinion our American Justice System is way better it lets us people to have the right to get evidence for what we have been accused for and not be punished within such volience being hanged till half dead and then quartered after that members and bowles cute from their bodies and thrown into the fire is too much of a punishment pshh wat a law! i seek for justice like our system thank god im living in this present yrs!

i belive that the crime is almost the same as crime now because if a random person goes to jail he gets alot of time but if hes rich and it also depends who his family and genertion is he will get less time becuz if its a rich famous person they would get alil bit more time off and have chances to get away with things. but also i think there crime things were much worst then now becuz they just accuse ppl 2 just doin anything wen it could have not been that person

Our system has some differences and some similarities. One difference is that in our system one is innocent until proven guilty. Today if you accuse some1 for breaking the law they go to trail and the judge will see if he/she is guilty or not, back then they would just kill you or torture you.

Today people accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty, back then if you were accused you either commited the crime,or if you didnt you were still tortured in some way. Alsoupper & lower classmen were treated differently, they both had different consequnces for different crimes and were punished in different ways. I think they were to harsh back then because every little thing was almost a crime, begging was a crime, when today the government tries to help homeless people, other than put them in jail or kill them

Compared to what punishments we have today and the ones from Shakespeare's time, the ones from back then are worst then what we do today. I think they exaggerated a little bit too much. They were quite harsh and disturbing especially if people were allowed to watch these people get burned, hung or any other sort of harsh torture. I think that only the time you can be sentenced to death (today) is if you try to put the country/world in danger!....with atomic bombs (or somthing like that).

Crime and punishment was different in shakespeare time than today because people were killed and torture if they thought they commited crime. They wouldnt even investigate or let them defend themself they would just kill them like that. Our American Justice System is better than the Elizabethan Justice System ours is better because people who are accused of doing a crime have the right to have a lawyer to defend them and they wont be punished until they find if you really broke the law and if you are accused you wouldnt get killed or torture. they would only sentenced people years in prison.

I find that our law system today is very different from the system back then. Our law states that people are innocent until proven guily but ther law states that just by being accused of a serious crime could result in torture. I think thats it is unfair because people may not be guilty they could be innocent and if people had to live in those kind or conditions it would be hard because of what people are use to with the law now.

The punishments for a crime in Shakespeare time was very different from ours. Torture for just being accused of a crime. Escaping punishment for your place in society. In this day and age you do the crime you pay the time no matter who you are. One of the greatest things about our justice system actual justice. I'm not going to lie their are executions but only for extreme crimes not minor ones like the one in Shakespeare time. You get to choose how you die if you were sentenced to death. An area were we could improve on is making sure that we have solid evidence rather that settling for what we have.

The justice system of our country differs from the justice system of Shakespeares time greatly. In our system, there is a death penalty in some states but only given if the person commits a very serious crime like a serial killer or something like that. Being just accused of the crime you are allowed to be given a lawyer and a trial not just atomaticaly tortured or killed. What if the accused was innocent? Our system is much better than this justice system.

Well i feel that no matter what the crime is, the Shakesperian way of punishment is too harsh. I mean punishing someone by hanging them until their half-dead and then catrating them and burning it is a inhumane way of punishing someone - even if their a modern day terrorist. but it makes me think about the whole Guantanamo Bay situation. I mean we dont know that people in that situation arent being treated harsher than the old Shakesperian days by American interogaters. Im happy i live in this time too!

People got punished for having a different religious belief, which today would be completely fine. Also, if you were just ACCUSED of a crime, you were automatically punished, without a fair trial or chance at being proved innocent. Today we have lawyers to help prove the innocence of the accused. I believe our system is better because we do not torture people to death for their crimes, and if we do it is electric chair or gas chamber , but those are consequences for much bigger crimes then people got tortured for back then.

The crime and punishment is different from today because back in those times they made the punishment according to what class they were in. Our justice system is better because the laws go out through the same people as equaly. OURs is not really worst cause we dont really torture people.

Crimes and Punishments in shakespeare time and today has differences. One difference they both have is that in shakesphere time when you are accused of a crime you automatically get punished for it without trial or being proved innocent for the crime. Todays "American Justice System" is better then because "Elizabethan Justice System" we give a fair deals and treat the people as human beings instead of torturing them like their animals or something.

the crimes and& punishments is different from today because back in those days they would have automatically resulted to torture if you were in a lowerclass. our justice system is better then Elizabethan Justice System because if you commit a crime you a innocent until you are proven guilty and& it doesnt matter what social class you are in you will go through the same process as everyone else.

Crime and punishments are very different from shakespeare because if a boy i was sneaking around with and my parents didnt know and when they would have found out i was seeing their enemies son they would tell me not to see him but the police will not banish him just because he snuck to see me. Unlikely for Romeo and Juliet romeo was banshied.

It is very different today from back then because people would get treated differently because they were lower class. The punishments like getting whipped or burned are very cruel!

the word justice must of had a very different definition back then because they tortured people who didn't even do anything whats worse the counted begging as a crime thats just twisted why penelize beggars who are having a hard time living as it is. our laws dont penelize people for the smallest things like begging. after reading this i think our laws are perfect. if i lived back then i wouldn't even want to say justice
